Obama’s Vegas Vacation
The Senate Majority leader, Harry Reid, has a fundraiser planned at Cesar’s Palace on the Las Vegas Strip. He’s planning on having headliners, like Bette Midler and Sheryl Crow perform at the event.
Oh yea, he’s also having some guy named Barack show up too.
The trip to Vegas for Obama is a complete 180 from his position on “corporate excesses”, back when bailout recipients were planning trips to Sin City for their high performers. The President was even quoted as saying “You can’t get corporate jets, you can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer’s dime” when talking about the corporate excesses.
I guess he changed his mind.
After all, it’s the taxpayer who footed the bill for the Air Force One photo-op flyover of Manhattan. And come to think of it, it’s also the taxpayer who is footing the bill for the President to fly out to Las Vegas.
I guess we shouldn’t complain though. It’s not like he’s taking the trip to further any “excesses”. I mean Harry Reid has only raised a little over $3 million for his reelection campaign. I suppose that might not be enough if he were running against someone who had a chance of winning. But he’s not.
The President has “flip-flopped” more in the first few months of his presidency than John Kerry did during his entire campaign against George W. Bush, and is leading with the “do as I say, not as I do” mentality, which is prevalent throughout the Democratic party.
I just pray that the important issues on the President’s desk don’t take a back seat to this fundraising initiative that he has decided to undertake. Just think how bad President Bush looked when he “didn’t panic little elementary school kids” on September 11th. God forbid, President Obama interrupts a pointless fundraiser to attend to other national security issues.

Constitutional Ignorance
Posted by Scott in Constitution, Elections, Gov't Operations on April 29th, 2009
There’s a lot to the US Constitution. The men who wrote it were very smart in the way they worded it. They had the foresight to include checks and balances, through the separation of powers among the various branches of government and defined what each branch can, and more importantly, can’t do.
They also defined the form of government that will govern the United States. If you were to ask 10 people what form of government that is, you’d most likely get 9 out of 10 that respond with “democratic, because we’re a democracy”. They’d all be wrong.
We are not a democracy. We’re a republic.
Article IV Section 4 of the Constitution states: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government…”
So what does this mean? According to Webster’s, a republic is defined as “…a government having a chief of state who is not a monarch and who in modern times is usually a president…a political unit (as a nation) having such a form of government…a government in which supreme power resides in a body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by elected officers and representatives responsible to them and governing according to law…” (emphasis added).
A democracy on the other hand is where the majority rules. You can throw the checks and balances out the window in a democracy, unless of course that’s what the majority wants.
People can justify majority rule by thinking that what’s good for the majority, must be good for the rest of the population. They do this when talking about the electoral college, saying that it is a dated system, and a simple majority should take it’s place.
What they don’t consider is that only nine states contain over 50% of the US population. If we abolished the electoral college, conceivably, those nine states could determine the result of a presidential election. With the electoral college those states only have a total of 255 votes while 270 are needed to win an election.
There are a lot of things the government does these days that may not necessarily be constitutional, but is justified because it benefits the majority. While it may be true that the majority benefits, it doesn’t mean that the minority isn’t suffering in one way or another because of it.

A New Form of PEST Control
It’s as if psychologists these days don’t have enough made up disorders to diagnose people with. Now they managed to come up with “Post Election Selection Trauma”, or PEST. Basically, PEST, like ADD and the rest of the made up disorders, are ways for psychologists to somewhat normalize abnormal behavior, and in this case the abnormal behavior is the inability of an individual to cope with the result of an election. With ADD, people ask “why is little Billy not able to pay attention in class?” To which someone would respond “oh, he has ADD”, and suddenly Billy’s behavior is ok. Just have him pop a few pills and everything will be alright. Now with PEST, people will ask “why is Sarah crying in the corner?” To which someone would respond “oh, she has PEST” (more accurately they should say Sarah is a PEST). Now we’re all of a sudden supposed to accept this “disorder”, and act like everything is ok.
Well, I won’t accept it. If someone comes crying to me about the result of the election, I’ll tell them to shut up, grow up and wake up. Shut up, because the sound of their voice will likely give me a headache in a matter of minutes. Grow up, because you can’t cry Kerry into the White House. And wake up, because as they will hopefully realize, this country is better off with Bush in the White House. They will have more money in their pockets, more individual freedoms and a safer country to live in under a Bush administration.
Sean Hannity recently interviewed one of the psychiatrists who is treating many of these nut jobs, and the psychiatrist claimed that many of these people cringe at the very mention of religion or God. He claimed that they fear that God has been elected into the “Right” House, and not a president. He claimed that some of these people need a cardboard cutout of the President to throw darts at just to make themselves feel better. I’m sorry, but that is not normal behavior for an adult. I can see a five-year old throwing a temper tantrum, but adults? Grow up, it was just an election, that was won fairly, both in the electoral college as well as the popular vote. Well, I guess if these people can’t grow up and act like adults, we could always threaten to take away their dessert until they act like big boys and girls.

John Kerry Supports Mandatory Service in the Military
The best thing about the internet is it allows the free exchange of ideas, with little government interference, unlike in some means of communication, such as radio and television, where there are some government restrictions. Because of this free exchange of ideas idiots, like John Kerry, are able to put their proposals for the future of America online. What John Kerry probably wasn’t betting on was the “Way Back Machine”, an internet archive, which keeps track of thousands upon thousands of web pages, and has many updates of these pages, as they progress through time.If you go to the Way Back Machine1 and type in the site http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice/ then click on February 10, 2004. If you go towards the bottom of the page, you’ll find Kerry’s plan for high school students. I’ll summarize it here, just in case the Kerry campaign gets their hands on this site.
As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes requiring mandatory service for high school students and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service.
Now notice the date that you clicked on to get to that page. February 10, 2004! This was only eight months ago, and now he has the balls to say that Bush is the one who supports a draft.
I’ve heard the argument that “Kerry has the right to change his mind”, but I call bullshit on this one. There’s changing your mind, like saying that you want steak instead of chicken, and then there is changing your mind like saying national service will be mandatory for high school students, and then saying that he doesn’t support the draft. This isn’t just simply changing your mind. This is simply Kerry following the latest poll figures (although I can’t possibly imagine that this ever seemed like a good idea to anyone, in any poll).
The same people who defend Kerry’s right to change his mind, are also the same idiots who call this country a democracy. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. The United States is NOT a democracy. A democracy is a place where the majority rules. There is no such place. The United States is a representative constitutional republic (note that when you recite the “Pledge of Allegiance”, you say “…and to the republic for which it stands…”). The problem with mob/majority rule is that the minority group always winds up being oppressed. This in turn will ultimately lead to a dictatorship. Adolf Hitler inherited a liberal democracy2, and quickly turned it into a dictatorship. If you think a democracy is the way to go, think again. The United States has a Constitution, which limits the federal government’s powers, and a system of checks and balances ensuring that a person’s inalienable rights are recognized and most importantly, protected.
It is important to recognize how Kerry “flip flops” on so many issues, letting the political currents guide his policies. In a democracy, as Kerry would have you believe we live in, he could offer voters whatever he thought would help him win a few extra votes. But the question still remains “at what cost will we be able to get these great things”. Unfortunately, it is a question that is rarely asked, because people don’t look at the big picture often enough to see beyond the immediate impact something will have on their lives.
For some unknown reason, Kerry had the statement above on his website in regards to high school students. Shortly thereafter, the polls changed to show that he needed to say something else about national service. When confronted with an issue with Constitutional consequences, how will Kerry make his decision? Will it be based on the latest poll data, or will it be based on what is the right thing to do?
I guess we’ll see what you decide on November 2nd.

Convincing Promises, or Worthless Babble
John Kerry, throughout his campaign has complained how George W. Bush has let 43 million Americans go without health insurance. He also promises to provide the same health insurance plan to all Americans that members of Congress are offered. Why would he do this though? If health care was such a big problem in the United States, wouldn’t you expect to see stories on the news of people dying outside of hospitals, because they couldn’t afford treatment? I know I haven’t seen any of these stories, and trust me if there were stories like this, the media would jump all over it to give Kerry whatever boost they could. (Sorry Mr. Rather, you can’t forge this story). Now it may be true that 43 million Americans are without health insurance, but that doesn’t mean that they are without the ability to get health care. Sure, they may need to pay a little more should the unexpected happen, and they may not always get the best care, but there always will be a place for them to get care if they need it. They may not be able to make an appointment with a regular physician, but there’s always a walk in clinic for them to go to. I agree with Kerry that every American should have health insurance for the unexpected, but I don’t think that it’s necessary to spend tax dollars on it.
Kerry also moans about Bush letting companies export jobs overseas, forcing many Americans into the unemployment line. Kerry says that he’ll offer a tax benefit to companies who don’t export jobs overseas, as an incentive to keep jobs in the U.S. because we’re losing too many jobs to companies that outsource. Again, this is another made up problem.
According to Bruce Bartlett of the National Center for Policy Analysis, in his article “How Outsourcing Creates Jobs for Americans” over the past 15 years, outsourcing of jobs have increased by 23% (chalk one up for Kerry’s argument). On the other hand, in sourced jobs have increased 82% over the same time period (sorry Sen. Kerry, we’ll be taking that point back). In addition, the jobs that have been in sourced from other countries pay 16.5% more than regular domestic jobs.
Bartlett continues by mentioning the business climate in European countries, where many employers are forced to keep obsolete jobs, because of the lengthy and costly job protection laws in those countries. Laws like these have been proposed in the United States, but not necessarily enacted, which do nothing but provide an incentive for companies to export their jobs to countries with fewer restrictions. The reason, therefore that the United States has seen such an increase in the number of in sourced jobs is because we have far fewer labor restrictions than European countries.
And if Kerry thinks he’ll be able to solve our unemployment “problems” then answer me this: why is the United States’ unemployment rate lower than it’s average unemployment rate over the past 50 years? (Average unemployment since 1955 is 5.83% and current unemployment is 5.4%1). And which country should Kerry model his job creation plan after? France? Well their unemployment rate is at 9.9%2, so maybe Germany? Well, no theirs is at 10.3%3. How about Canada’s 7.1% unemployment rate?4.
Senator Kerry, when you finally come up with a real problem with a real solution, let the American people know about it. We’re waiting.

Generous or Deceitful?
I started searching around the internet for some dirt for my next article. I didn’t have to search far. The first site I went to was www.johnkerry.com. The first link I clicked on was to a page describing John Kerry’s Health Care Plan for America, and let me tell you, it showed just how generous Kerry can be.Did you know that according to JohnKerry.com, over the last three years health care premiums for families have increased by more than $3,512? “Well what is Mr. Kerry proposing to do about this problem?” you ask. Well Mr. Kerry and Mr. Edwards are apparently tired of being so rich. According to JohnKerry.com, their plan is as follows:
“John Kerry and John Edwards will cut family premiums by up to $1,000. That’s $1,000 in real savings people can use to buy groceries, pay the bills, and save for their children’s future.”
That’s right, you heard it here first. John Kerry and John Edwards are going to pay about 1/3 of that increase out of their own pockets. Generous isn’t it?
Well no, it’s not, because what they neglect to tell you is that you and I are the ones who are going to be footing the bill for it through higher taxes. Rather convenient for them isn’t it?
Then my eyes wandered back over to the links on JohnKerry.com, and I noticed that none of them had anything to do with taxes. It only seemed logical that someone who was claiming to be able to pay for all these health care premiums would describe exactly how he was planning on doing it. But I guess he doesn’t want to confuse a good story with the facts.
So after realizing that Kerry wasn’t willing to put his tax plan on the internet, I decided to just read on about his health care plan. Apparently Kerry thinks that he can make the health care system in America more efficient. Again, according to JohnKerry.com their plan is as follows:
“Today, approximately 25 percent of health care costs are wasted on paperwork and administrative processing. The Kerry-Edwards plan harnesses American ingenuity to cut waste, save billions, and take new steps to ensure patient privacy.”
Once again, they fail to mention how they plan to save these billions of dollars. And isn’t “billions” a sort of arbitrary figure? I mean is it two billion, or is it 50 billion? With a plan this big, wouldn’t you expect some real numbers behind it? And how exactly does Kerry propose to make the health care industry more efficient by increasing government involvement? Can you name one single government run program that is efficient? I know I can’t. (*Check out more on this topic).
After getting totally fed up with Kerry’s stance on health care, I decided to see what he had to say about National Security. According to JohnKerry.com, it seems as if one of the most dangerous threats to our national security is our dependence on Middle Eastern oil:
“To secure our full independence and freedom, we must free America from its dangerous dependence on Mideast oil. By tapping American ingenuity, we can achieve that goal while growing our economy and protecting our environment.”
Yet again, Kerry fails to explain exactly how he plans on replacing the lost supply of oil. It certainly won’t be by drilling in Alaska, because God forbid we disturb the red-throated loons, which inhabit the area.
I guess what it all comes down to is who is going to foot the bill. If you think the upper class should pay for the mid to lower class’ medical bills, then by all means vote for John Kerry on election day. On the other hand, if you feel that your tax dollars will be better spent by securing this country from another attack, by closing our borders, and by fully supporting our troops (through actions more so than words), then vote for George W. Bush.

More Kerry Lies
A recent Newsweek poll show Kerry gaining some ground on the President after last week’s debate, with 47% of those polled saying they will vote Kerry, and 45% saying they will vote for Bush. One would think that this little boost would be enough to keep Kerry and his staff from making even more false promises. But obviously it’s not. This morning I was watching Fox & Friends on the Fox News Channel, who interviewed Chris Cox, an NRA Executive Director and spokesperson who discussed their recent ad, which implied that Kerry uses a little poodle with pink ribbons as his hunting dog. Clearly a satirical approach to discredit Kerry’s record among hunters and gun owners. To be “Fair and Balanced” the show brought on a Kerry Campaign representative to discuss, among other things Kerry’s credibility with hunters and gun owners. He said the following, with respect to gun owners and Kerry:
“If you’re a hunter, you’ll love John Kerry…He’s never going to do a thing to infringe on hunter’s rights.”
Hasn’t the Kerry Campaign figured out that we’re not idiots? We know the truth about this guy’s voting record, and it does not support the interests of gun owners or hunters. Here are some facts:
• Kerry co-sponsored S. 1431, a bill that would reauthorize the assault weapons ban. It effectively would bring the US into an era of Australian-like gun control. (November 21, 2003)
• Kerry voted for the “Kennedy Amendment”, S.Amdt. 2619 to S. 1805 (Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act), just one of the nine times he voted in favor of banning semi-automatic firearms. (March 2, 2004)
• Kerry voted for S.Amdt. 2637 to S. 1805 (Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act), which provides for a 10-year extension of the assault weapons ban. (March 2, 2004)
• Kerry voted for S.Amdt. 362 to S. 254 to regulate the sale of firearms at gun shows. (May 20, 1999)
• Kerry co-sponsored S.21 (California Desert Protection Act of 1994), which would close off California’s Mojave Desert to hunting. (April 12, 1994)
Words, during an election year usually don’t mean much. Prior actions are what we need to be looking at to decide which side of an issue a particular candidate is on. Kerry may say he is a hunter, and that he will protect hunter’s rights, but so far we haven’t seen any proof to back this up.

Where do They Stand on the Issues?
Many of you out there may be confused about where Bush and Kerry stand on certain issues, and with the Presidential election less than 100 days away, it would be nice to have it explained to you. Now you can watch the DNC and RNC on television and listen to all the hot air that politicians tend to blow and be equally confused after the conventions are over, or you can keep reading. The choice is yours. There are a number of key topics that I feel need addressing. I will address these topics, in terms of where each candidate stands, and give a brief explanation as to what consequences (good or bad) their stance will have for the country.
The first topic is abortion. Simply put, Bush is against it, and Kerry is for it (except that he’s also against it, go figure). More specifically, Bush signed the Partial Birth Abortion Act, which outlawed Partial Birth Abortions. He does however support few exceptions, where abortions should be allowed. He feels that abortion should be legal in cases where the mother is put in a life or death situation, incest and rape. Kerry on the other hand believes that the Constitution protects a woman’s right to choose, and has said that if elected as President he would appoint pro-Abortion judges to fill Supreme Court vacancies. Basically what this means is that Bush’s stance protects the lives of unborn children, where Kerry’s stance protects a mother’s right to kill her child as it is, in his mind a protected Constitutional right. Unfortunately after searching through the US Constitution, I could not find the word abortion, or the phrase “right to privacy” anywhere. The only phrase pertaining to “privacy” was the term “private property” found in the 5th Amendment, and the last time I checked the 13th Amendment abolished slavery, so a person can no longer be private property. Sorry Johnny boy, you lose on this issue.
The next issue of importance is the economy. According to Bush over 1 million jobs were created during his Presidency, and according to Kerry, there were 3 million lost. Who should you believe? Well hopefully there are some facts backing up these statistics, and they’re not just throwing out numbers. According to an interview of an economist on the Fox News Channel, there are two sets of data that are compiled to arrive at unemployment numbers. The first, and the one that Kerry cites, determines the number of employed individuals through weekly payroll tax receipts. The second, more accurate method, which Bush cites includes everyone who is employed, even if they don’t pay weekly payroll tax, and more importantly does not include those who are not seeking jobs. People included in the second set of employment data, and excluded from the first would be self employed individuals who pay quarterly tax on their income, not weekly (note, there are more sole proprietorships in America than Corporations), seasonal employees, such as those who work jobs in the summer but not in the winter and some consultants just to name a few. Now does it really seem fair to say that these people should be included in the “unemployed” column of Kerry’s stats? I don’t think so, again things aren’t looking good in “Kerry’s Ketchup Korner” (or KKK for short).
On the issue of War on Terror and Homeland Security, Bush led our troops into Afghanistan and Iraq, and in a short period of time toppled the anti-American regimes. Kerry voted for the War in Iraq, only to later vote against spending to adequately supply our troops overseas. Bush signed a bill, creating the Department of Homeland Security, which protects our ports and borders from terrorists entering the country. Kerry on the other hand claims he will devote resources to volunteer manpower in the event of another attack. Sorry Johnny, I don’t think I need to go any further. Bush creates a department to prevent future attacks, while you will fund volunteers to respond to future attacks.
Finally, I’ll discuss the candidate’s stance on taxes. Bush signed into law various tax cuts, which among other things reduced the lowest tax bracket from 15% to 10% (a 33% tax decrease on low income taxpayers), reduced the middle 31% and 28% brackets to 25% and the highest 39.6% and 36% brackets were reduced to 33%. Kerry wishes to increase taxes on companies who use foreign labor (even if they end up creating new American jobs in the process), and will give tax breaks to companies who do not use foreign labor. This will encourage the retention of American jobs, but will discourage the creation of new jobs. High American labor costs force companies to hire fewer Americans than they would be able to if they used foreign labor for unskilled labor, and Americans for the skilled work. Kerry also reported that he will keep the middle-class tax cuts but will repeal some of the tax cuts on high income taxpayers, despite the fact that the top 5% of tax payers pay over 50% of the tax.
Sorry Kerry it would take a “Flip Flop” of unprecedented proportions to make you look like a good candidate for the Presidency. I just don’t think you’ve got what it takes to follow in Bush’s footsteps.
