Whoopi & Barbara Blindside Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck, for one reason or another, agreed to be on The View.  While on the program, he was probably supposed to be debating current events with the cast of the show.  Instead, they brought up an inconsequential point from his radio program and debated it for a good five plus minutes.

What was the issue of the day that trumped Gitmo, the economy, or the credit card bill?  They bickered over Beck’s account of an Amtrak trip the three of them took to D.C.  Barbara took aim at his credibility by questioning whether or not he verifies his sources as a journalist.  Whoopi being Whoopi wouldn’t let Beck get a word in because she simply doesn’t like his “views”.

Maybe Glenn Beck would have had something of value to say about some of today’s current events, but the cast of The View didn’t want to hear any of it.  I’m not a fan of The View, so I don’t know the quality of the program (although I can imagine), but would their viewers rather see the cast team up on a seemingly unsuspecting guest, or see the cast debate the important issues taking place in society?

Here’s the clip from The View:

And here’s Glenn Beck’s response on his own television show on Fox News:

They’ve Got it All Wrong

Continuing on my little rant from the past article on the Liberal Media, I would like to discuss how the media’s perceptions of the events in Iraq are misleading the American public.Ever since President Bush announced that he was going to hunt down terrorists in Afghanistan, and remove Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq, the media has labeled him as a “hot headed cowboy” while others have even been as bold to compare him to Hitler. Not only are those accusations made about him, but the mindless drones who make up a good part of the American population actually believe it!

The subtle phrases the media uses when reporting on this war is what is most troubling. As recently as this week, a news report on Osama bin Laden referred to him as a “suspected terrorist” as if there is some doubt as to whether he actually is a terrorist. If they had at least watched their own news reports, they would have seen the countless times that bin Laden had issued statements regarding his involvement in terrorist activities.

Then they try to make President Bush look like such a bad person for sending our troops to war when they constantly report the numbers of casualties. I agree that this information is newsworthy, but at least report it in a manner that honors the fallen soldier, not in a way that makes them seem like just another tick mark on the list of casualties that the “President has caused”. Reporting in this manner makes the President look like a genocidal maniac. In reality, however, the President is actually trying to rid Iraq of their own genocidal dictator.

Every time the press reports on Saddam’s mass killings of his own people, they almost seem to justify it by making it seem that he is just trying to be an effective leader. They never report on it with the hostility that they have when they report on something President Bush has done. Like the title of this article says “they’ve got it all wrong”.

Liberal Media – Impairing Americans’ Judgment

I was watching television the other day with a friend of mine (who is a good guy, but unfortunately for me is about as liberal as they get), and as he was flipping through the stations, he came to stop on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show (for those who haven’t heard of the show, it’s about as liberal as a Barbara Streisand, Rosie O’Donnell and Oprah Winfrey orgy). While I do not agree with anything the show’s host, Jon Stewart or anyone else on the show has to say politically, they do occasionally have some rather funny non-political skits, so I decided to stick around and watch. It just so happens that the first “story” that they reported was on one of President Bush’s speeches where he apparently fumbled around with his words. I did not have the opportunity to see the entire speech, just the portions that they showed on the show, which I’m sure were taken out of context. After my friend’s laughter died down, he turned to me and said “Ha! You’re a Republican!” Which I guess was supposed to be an insult, but rest assured I took no offense, since I wasn’t the one relying on Jon Stewart as a credible news source. Besides, I know that it takes more than just being a sharp speaker to be a great leader. It’s the policies behind the speaker and the means of implementing those policies that makes a leader great.

While The Daily Show may be a more extreme example of how the liberal media is withering away the thought processes of Americans, people, such as my friend, still use information from that show and other liberal media sources in forming opinions. Even when the media source is “credible”, many Americans simply take the reporter’s opinion as fact, almost never stopping to think about what was just reported to them.

Unfortunately, the conservative (or at least balanced) media outlets Americans have to choose from, are few and far between. The ones that do exist typically deal with events on a national/global scale rather than on a local scale. In modern America, people tend to be too busy to get their news from more than one source, so they watch/read the typically liberal news that gives them local content as well as some national content.

This could spell trouble for conservatives over the next year. As we get closer to election day, where will Americans be getting their news, and more importantly, who will be forming their opinions? One can only hope that they will be getting their news from more reliable sources than The Daily Show.
